According to a report from The Sun from last month, Liverpool and Everton are both keen on Charlton defender Ezri Konsa, who has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season with the Addicks.

The 19-year-old has made nine League One appearances for Karl Robinson’s men this term, helping them put themselves amongst the early pace-setters in the third tier.

The Sun reported that the Reds and the Toffees were both looking to replicate previous deals involving Charlton by landing Konsa – Liverpool signed Joe Gomez from the club, while Everton took Ademola Lookman from The Valley – but perhaps Celtic should revive their previous interest in the teenager and join the race.

The Daily Mirror reported in November 2016 that the Hoops were keen on bringing Konsa to Parkhead despite the presence of several Premier League clubs in the race.

Celtic won the race for Moussa Dembele in 2016 despite links with Tottenham (via Guardian), so Brendan Rodgers could surely have some confidence that, if they join the race once again, the Bhoys have the potential to spring an upset and land one of the Football League’s most talented prospects.

Rodgers has given several youngsters an opportunity and enabled them to take that next step in their careers, and there is no doubt that Patrick Roberts’ and Dembele’s Celtic spells will end with their stock having risen considerably, and trying to convince Konsa that he should ignore the Premier League interest and instead look to follow in their footsteps should be something that Rodgers contemplates doing.

Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic were exceptional at centre-back in the Champions League last week, but Rodgers should certainly be thinking about bolstering their defensive options further – and the youngster surely ticks a number of boxes.

And if Celtic do decide to revive their interest in the Charlton man, and they manage to win the race, that would arguably be another brilliant statement from the Hoops.
