According to the Telegraph, Stoke City are set to release Ibrahim Afellay at the end of the season and that should put Celtic on alert.

Afellay has struggled to make much of an impression at Stoke this season, which means his stay at the Britannia Stadium is set to be cut short.

And if he is available on a free then Celtic should consider offering the Dutchman a new home.

Although Afellay has not played regularly this term, he has previously proven to be a valuable option to Stoke.

The Dutchman is blessed with a vast amount of technical ability, and he could be perfectly suited to Celtic’s style.

Brendan Rodgers demands that his side are comfortable in possession, and Afellay’s ability on the ball means he would fit right in.

Afellay could play in either central midfield or as a number 10 for Celtic, and would also bring with him experience of playing in the latter stages of the Champions League.

With the Bhoys likely to have a limited budget to spend, compared to teams across the rest of Europe, they will have to choose wisely with who they bring in.

And if Afellay is available on a free, then there will not be many better value for money transfers available for Rodgers’ side.
