Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic should make a move for Steven Caulker, who left Dundee on transfer deadline day.

Steven Caulker is leaving Dundee, and Celtic would be wise to make a move for the former Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers defender.
As announced on Dundee’s official website, Caulker has left the Scottish club after triggering a release clause in his contract.
The 26-year-old central defender played well for the Dee in the second half of last season, and given that he is a free agent now, Celtic should make a move.
Celtic’s performances at the back so far this season have not been great, and although manager Brendan Rodgers has addressed the issue by signing Filip Benkovic on loan from Leicester City on transfer deadline day, more could be done.
Caulker is an experienced centre-back who has proved himself in the Scottish Premiership, and Celtic should at least make an offer.
True, there could be a situation in which the Hoops could have too many centre-backs, but the former Tottenham Hotspur defender is better than Jack Hendry.

Moreover, the presence of Caulker in the team would mean that Celtic would not have to sweat on the future of Dedryck Boyata in the January transfer window.
Celtic boss Rodgers knows the former Spurs man well, having worked with him at Swansea City and described him as “awesome” in The Scottish Sun in July 2017.
