Celtic should have one response if Southampton make £10m Stuart Armstrong offer

Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong could be about to attract a £10 million bid from Southampton.

According to a recent report from The Sunday Post, Southampton are considering making a £10 million bid for Stuart Armstrong this month after failing to land the Celtic midfielder during the summer.

It is no surprise that the Hoops had no intention of selling Armstrong during the previous window. He was superb during Brendan Rodgers’ first year at Parkhead, scoring 15 goals in the Scottish Premiership and proving to be a hugely important player in the side.

However, this season has been a different story for the Scotland international. And that form should tempt the Bhoys to have just one response if the Saints come calling with a £10 million offer before the deadline later this month.

Armstrong has scored just two goals in the league this year and has arguably looked a lot less impressive than he did last season, with Olivier Ntcham somewhat overshadowing him in the middle of the park and a number of other players also available to Rodgers.

If Armstrong leaves, then, of course, there is every chance that he may become the latest Celtic player to go on and shine at St Mary’s if the south coast club are able to help him rediscover the form that he showed last season.

But right now, it may not be out of the question to suggest that Celtic will do extremely well to attract another eight-figure bid for the 25-year-old in the future. And with Rodgers boasting a number of central midfield options who may be able to fill the void in the short and long-term, selling Armstrong for £10 million should be an option that should appeal to Celtic this month.
