Celtic have to reportedly pay £7million to land Odsonne Edouard permanently, but is Tottenham Hotspur’s Vincent Janssen a better option?

Celtic have been told by Paris Saint-Germain that they must splash out a club-record fee of £7million to land Odsonne Edouard on a permanent basis – according to the Daily Mail – but he has hardly shown he is worth such a figure.

The 20-year-old has scored eight goals in 26 games for the Hoops, hardly the kind of return that would convince Rodgers into breaking Celtic’s transfer record.

Rodgers is likely to be on the lookout for a new striker, with Frenchman Edouard potentially set to leave at the end of the season and Moussa Dembele’s future still up in the air with clubs likely to test the Hoops’ resolve once again this summer.

It should see the former Liverpool boss turn his attention to a player Celtic scouted in recent years, Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen.

Former scout Neil McGuinness claimed the Hoops were keeping an eye on the Holland international before he joined Spurs in the summer of 2016 from AZ Alkmaar. Now, he is out of favour at Spurs and on loan with Fenerbahce.

Turkish outlet Fotomac claim Janssen is available to leave Spurs for good if they receive a bid of just £10million, just £3million more than Edouard’s asking price.

Surely Rodgers should look to convince Celtic’s owners to stump up the extra cash on top of what they would have paid to land Edouard permanently, but instead spend it on Janssen?

Offering power and an unwavering eye for goal, Janssen needs the confidence of being a club’s best striker and he certainly would be if he moved north of the border to Celtic.

That belief in his ability would see him rediscover the form that saw him score 32 goals in 49 games for Alkmaar. With the.lure of Champions League football and trophies, Janssen and Celtic could be a match made in heaven.
