Chris Sutton told Celtic to sign Uche Ikpeazu from Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts in the summer transfer window.

Eyebrows were raised earlier this month when Chris Sutton told Celtic to sign Uche Ikpeazu from Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts.
“It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Celtic to make a move for Uche Ikpeazu. The big striker must be an absolute nightmare to play against,” Sutton told The Express of the former Cambridge United striker.
“He’d bring a different option, that’s for sure.”
He certainly would. An old-school target man who thrives with his back to goal, Ikpeazu is not the most prolific of strikers but he is a selfless player who gets the best out of those around him, occupying and bullying defenders to open up spaces for others – think Emile Heskey in his early noughties England pomp.
And Ikpeazu’s recent form suggests that Sutton’s idea should at least be taken seriously. He scored only his first goal in 11 games during Hearts’ 2-1 Scottish Cup quarter-final win against Partick Thistle on Wednesday night but his overall performances have been hugely impressive of late.

Ikpeazu was arguably the best player on the pitch as Hearts beat Dundee at the weekend, terrorising the opposition backline with a complete centre-forward’s performance which showed just how unstoppable he can be on his day.
Celtic haven’t had a striker like Ikpeazu since, well, perhaps Sutton himself was gracing the Parkhead turf. And maybe they should listen to their former striker.
Ikpeazu wouldn’t score 20 goals a season but he could help James Forrest, Scott Sinclair and co thrive.
