Celtic’s defensive problems should tempt the Hoops to have a look at the West Ham United youngster.
Heading into the final days of the transfer window, it certainly does appear that Celtic may need to prioritise strengthening their defensive options with Brendan Rodgers’ side not keeping a clean sheet in any of their last five games in all competitions.
Kristoffer Ajer is clearly a huge talent while Jack Hendry boasts a lot of potential. But with the pair not quite the finished articles just yet and with speculation surrounding Dedryck Boyata’s future continuing, it would probably be a gamble for Rodgers not to get another defender in before the deadline.
And one player that Celtic should undoubtedly consider is West Ham youngster Reece Oxford, following reports from the Daily Mail this week which suggested that the Hammers are planning to loan him out for the rest of the season.
It appears to be a mistake from the Irons to send Oxford out on loan despite the fact that he has struggled to force his way into the first-team at the London Stadium, and the Bhoys should look to capitalise on their willingness to loan him out.
Oxford is a classy player who would relish getting regular game-time for a side that will not only be looking to win yet another domestic treble, but will also have their eyes set on going a long way in the Europa League.
He has shown that he does have an enormous amount of natural talent and being a part of a successful Celtic side for a campaign may help him start to realise that potential ahead of his return to West Ham.
The Hammers may have their ideas regarding where they would like to send Oxford this summer, but Celtic should certainly make their own move in the hope that moving to a club of their stature is particularly appealing to the youngster.
