Celtic may be in the market for another goalkeeper in 2019.

Celtic won’t want to copy an idea from Rangers too often, but when it comes to goalkeepers, they could do worse than take a leaf of their bitter rivals’ book.

The Bhoys have Craig Gordon in goal, but he is coming towards the end of his career, and Scott Bain is yet to really show that he is the solution between the sticks.

Dorus De Vries is likely to move on at the end of the season, so a goalkeeper could be a top target for Brendan Rodgers and co – and this is where Rangers may have set a strong template.

They decided to bring back Allan McGregor from Hull City this past summer, handing him a return to Ibrox having starred at the KCOM Stadium, and he has been simply superb between the sticks for Rangers this term.

McGregor’s replacement at Hull just happened to be ex-Celtic goalkeeper David Marshall, and he finds himself in a similar situation as McGregor did this time last year; being a contract rebel with his deal winding down.

Marshall, 33, has been in outstanding form for Hull this season, impressing fans with his displays between the sticks – but the threat of him leaving remains on the cards.

Marshall came up through the Celtic ranks before leaving in 2007, but has gone on to impress elsewhere, and the time may be right to bring him back to Parkhead in 2019.

McGregor has shown that a safe pair of hands and knowing the club inside out can be hugely beneficial, and if Celtic do look to goalkeepers in 2019, Marshall should certainly be on their list of targets in a move reminiscent of McGregor’s.
