Scottish Premiership champions Celtic could reportedly hire Nicky Hammond as Lee Congerton’s replacement, one year after West Brom sacked him.

It’s fair to say Lee Congerton wasn’t the most popular figure at Parkhead.
During his two-year spell as Celtic’s head of recruitment, the former Sunderland and Hamburg director was blamed for a series of ill-fated and ineffective signings.
Marvin Compper (above), Lewis Morgan and Charly Musonda were among those attributed to Congerton and the mourners were hardly out in force when it was announced that he was set to follow Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City.
Now, Celtic fans will be praying that their next recruitment chief does a little better.
But could that man in question by Nicky Hammond? According to The Sun, Celtic have headhunted Hammond as their preferred new director of football, a former Arsenal goalkeeper who has huge experience in the role.
But, like Congerton, Hammond was hardly well-liked in his last job.
He was sacked by West Bromwich Albion with the club on the verge of relegation last April and, reacting on Twitter, Baggies fans made it very clear that they were glad to see Hammond go.

Amid a myriad of other factors, some truly disastrous recruitment played a major part in The Baggies demise with £15 million deals for Nacer Chadli and Oliver Burke proving absolutely disastrous. High-earning loanees Grzegorz Krychowiak and Daniel Sturridge looked a waste of money too and patience quickly ran out.
So if Hammond does replace Congerton at Celtic, he really will have a point to prove.
