Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been linked with a summer move, so should Brendan Rodgers keep one eye on a former signing?

Despite the Daily Mail recently reporting that Craig Gordon is in talks over a new deal at Celtic, it would hardly be a surprise if Chelsea reignited their January interest this summer. And should the Blues make an offer for the 34-year-old that the player and the Hoops simply cannot turn down, then perhaps Brendan Rodgers should look to a former signing as a potential loan option.
Liverpool have been on the cusp of a serious title challenge in the Premier League this season. However, the quality of their back-line has arguably held them back, and Jurgen Klopp would be forgiven for planning changes at the end of the campaign, especially when it comes to his options between the sticks.
While Simon Mignolet has played more often than Loris Karius, and has arguably done better, the latter is five years younger and was signed during Klopp’s tenure so it is perhaps fair to assume that he will be higher in the pecking order in the long-term, potentially leaving the Belgian with a decision to make regarding his future.
Liverpool may be hesitant about letting him go permanently even if they land another stopper during the summer, so perhaps a loan switch may be the best option for all parties.
And the Hoops should be the club that offers him the chance to make a temporary exit if they lose Gordon.

Though Mignolet has struggled at times, he is coming into the stage of his career when goalkeepers tend to enjoy their best years so would definitely be an excellent replacement for Gordon should he head to Stamford Bridge
And playing for the Bhoys will undoubtedly give him the perfect opportunity to build up plenty of confidence, not least because it will see him link up once again with the man who brought him to Anfield.
Celtic are, once again, strolling to the Scottish Premiership title and their domestic dominance looks set to continue for several years to come.
Meanwhile, if the Hoops replicate what they managed this season and reach the Champions League group-stages, he would also be able to test himself against some of the best in Europe which may allow him to send a message to Klopp.
It may well be that if Liverpool do strengthen their options this summer that Mignolet plans to fight for his place or only has eyes for a move to one of Europe’s strongest divisions, but he could surely do a lot worse than consider joining a Celtic side that appear to be growing with almost every performance under Brendan Rodgers.
