Celtic have agreed a deal for highly-rated Ipswich Town youngster Kundai Benyu, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
A number of clubs, including several Premier League sides in England have been chasing Benyu after he impressed on loan at Aldershot last season.
The 19-year-old made 21 appearances and scored five goals for Aldershot during his time on loan at the National League outfit as he helped them reach the play-offs.
Benyu’s contract at Ipswich expires next month and the player has been unable to agree a new deal at Portman Road.
Ipswich were hoping to keep hold of the skilful Benyu, but the player has opted to make the move to Scotland with Celtic.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has been doing his homework on his player and sees him a potential star in the making.
Benyu underwent a medical in Glasgow on Wednesday and is set to put pen-to-paper on Thursday to become Celtic’s second signing of the summer after Johnny Hayes’ arrival from Aberdeen.
Ipswich will be due a compensation fee for Benyu, but the fee is set to be minimal as the player has opted to move to Scotland rather than stay in England.
