Celtic ace Ryan Christie has spoken of his role as the Hoops penalty taker, admitting he “was delighted” when Bhoys boss Neil Lennon told him of the decision in the summer, in conversation with the official Celtic website.

The 24-year-old has been prolific for Celtic this season, weighing in with 10 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions, plus nine assists according to Transfermarkt, his heroics helping the Glasgow side to a superb start to the campaign.

Christie netted the spot kick which earned the Parkhead side a precious 1-1 draw away at Rennes in the Europa League and he and his teammates are now preparing for the Scottish League Cup clash with Partick Thistle, hoping to edge a step closer to yet more silverware.

The gaffer said from the start of the season that he wants me hitting the penalties,” Christie told the official Celtic website. “I was delighted when he said that. It was a decision he made from the first game and I’m really happy to have that opportunity because it’ll let me add more goals to my game.

Celtic's new interim manager Neil Lennon is unveiled with his assistant John Kennedy at Celtic Park on February 27, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“We practice them in training and Stevie Woods is always helping us. He does different things to put pressure on us and there are always bets, so it’s good fun and the work has been paying off. I always have confidence in myself to step up and take the penalties, so long may it continue.”

Signed for £500,000 in 2015 (Daily Record), Christie is proving to be a real gem for Celtic and, with his contract running until the summer of 2022 as things stand (Transfermarkt), it looks as though there could be many more goals to come from the Inverness academy graduate.
