Ryan Christie thinks Celtic treble Treble significance has not sunk in yet

The Hoops have kept the Premiership, Scottish Cup and League Cup at Parkhead for the last three years.

Celtic ace Ryan Christie has spoken to the official club website about his hopes for the upcoming season while also casting an eye back at the Hoops’ superb treble Treble achievement.

In 2018-19, the Bhoys made it three years in a row of completing a clean sweep of domestic trophies, with the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup having stayed at Parkhead since 2016-17.

This summer, Celtic have arguably one of the toughest pre-seasons in recent years given the need to get rid of surplus players, bolstering the ranks, not to mention the continued criticism from some quarters of Neil Lennon being given the job permanently.

On top of that, the club’s Glasgow rivals picked up two Old Firm derby wins last season and were in contention for the league title in the first half of the campaign, so the pressure is higher than ever on Celtic to ensure they can make it nine in a row and potentially a quadruple Treble.

Christie, who joined Celtic in 2015 under Ronny Deila’s watch and has thus been around before the club’s momentous treble Treble achievements, believes that, with such a short off-season, the achievement has not really sunk in yet and as such the magnitude of how big it was probably won’t hit until a few years from now.

“The significance of the Treble Treble probably hasn’t set it now, and I’m not sure if it will,” Christie told the official Celtic website. “We didn’t get that much of a break. When you do, you tend to switch off, you don’t think about football for a little bit, and that lets you come back more focused than ever.

“The celebrations after winning another the cup final were brilliant, it’s such a remarkable achievement. But I don’t think it will really kick in until a few years from now, when we look back and realise what a massive achievement it is… the other side of that is that we don’t have to time to rest on our laurels. We have to get right back at it and pick up from where we left off last season, because we want silverware every season at this club.”
