Celtic didn’t exactly see the best of Charly Musonda during his loan spell at Parkhead, but he could end up making a shock move to Roma.

Celtic pounced to sign Musonda on loan from Chelsea back in January 2018 with Brendan Rodgers securing a favour from his former club.

Musonda had spent a year on loan at Real Betis, blowing hot and cold before a move to Scotland was supposed to get him back on track.

The Belgian winger really struggled with Celtic though, playing just four league games before heading back to Chelsea.

Celtic’s deal was supposed to be for 18 months but lasted less than six as Musonda flopped at Parkhead.

The last few years have been testing for Musonda.

Previously backed to become a star of the future, Musonda has suffered major injury problems in recent years and made just four appearances in two loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem.

Now 25, Musonda has already indicated that he will be leaving Chelsea when his contract expires this summer.

Signing him will be a gamble for any club, but Musonda may still have some admirers in the game; Roberto Martinez has branded him an ‘incredible talent’.

Now, Goal report that Roma are interested in signing Musonda on a free transfer this summer.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho was at Chelsea during Musonda’s time there, meaning this could be something of a reunion for the duo.

Given that Musonda has barely kicked a ball for the last four years, a move to Roma is something he would surely jump at.

There is still time for Musonda to fulfil his potential, but this next move has to be the right one – or the former Celtic loanee could very quickly drift down the leagues.
