Celtic reigniting Rhian Brewster interest in January makes sense

Celtic reportedly wanted to sign Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster in the summer and should go back in for the forward in January.

While Celtic will still be many people’s tip to win the Scottish Premiership this season, Brendan Rodgers may well be gearing up to implore the Hoops board to make a serious impact in January to make up for a summer window that was extremely underwhelming.

The Bhoys will be hoping that they already have the League Cup in the bag once again by the time January rolls around, and then have the potential to win three more trophies.

Should they find themselves still in the Europa League, Rodgers needs to look at pushing the boat out – and the player at the very top of the wishlist should be the Premier League striker that they were reportedly close to signing in the summer.

Herald Scotland reported in May that the Hoops were close to agreeing a deal for Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster to move to Parkhead on a season-long loan.

The deal would obviously not take place and Brewster is yet to feature for the Reds this term due to an injury that has ruled him out since January. He is gradually getting back to full fitness ahead of the new year.

While Jurgen Klopp would have previously wanted to introduce Brewster into the first-team picture, the length of time that he has spent on the sidelines should tempt the Liverpool boss to consider loaning him out for the second-half of the season.

A switch to Celtic could be ideal for all parties. Rodgers would be landing a brilliant striker prospect who should easily be putting pressure on the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths, while Brewster would be moving to a massive club that rarely go into a game that does not have high stakes involved.

Liverpool would then be getting the teenager back in the summer. He should return full of confidence and having proved his match sharpness over the previous few months ready to have another go at breaking into the first-team picture at Anfield.

And for Celtic, it could arguably be the kind of deal that ensures that all of their rivals remain at a distance by the time the campaign concludes.
