Celtic defender Mikael Lustig is set to return to Sweden training within the next 24 hours.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Hibernian at Celtic Park Stadium on September 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic faced a fresh injury scare when reports emerged that defender Mikael Lustig sat out of training with a calf problem.

The Daily Record reported that the full-back didn’t take part in Sweden’s preparation for their World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg on Saturday.

The report claimed that Lustig was struggling with a calf problem, and that he was a major doubt for the clash with Luxembourg.

However, according to a Swedish spokesperson Niklas Bodel (reported by the Scottish Sun) Lustig sat out of training as a precaution, and that he is expected back within the next 24 hours.

The news will be a boost for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, who has already seen central defender Jozo Simunovic being ruled out with a hamstring tear.

The Bosnian defender, who is a key player for Rodgers, was withdrawn after scans showed the extent of his muscle injury.

Celtic duo Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong won’t be participating for Scotland’s crucial World Cup qualifier games. They missed out on last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Hibs due to hamstring and calf problems respectively.
