Celtic currently hold an eight-point lead on bitter rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
Some Celtic and Rangers fans on Twitter provided mixed reaction to the reported news that the Scottish Football Association are considering bringing in foreign referees.
BBC Sport report that fundamental changes to refereeing and disciplinary issues will be looked into by the Scottish FA and they are potentially looking into using overseas officials.
It is said that a number of clubs in Scotland have raised concerns about the level of officiating in the country as they are in favour of increasing the pool of referees.
Nonetheless, some of the fans from Scotland’s top two clubs provided a mixed reaction to the news with some stating that something needs to be done, while others feel more investment needs to be put into Scottish refs.
The BBC report cites the year 2010 when Scotland brought in officials from Israel, Luxembourg and Malta after domestic referees went on strike.
One fan referred to that year and reminded the SFA that the situation was ‘quite farcical’ as supporters had a range of views on the topic, but most agreed that the officiating needs to improve on the field of play.

It remains to be seen if these plans do go ahead, but either way, officiating in Scotland needs to improve, one way or another.
Perhaps going down the route of investing time, effort and money into Scotland’s own officials, both young and old, would be the way forward because bringing in other people from abroad simply looks like a short-term option.
