Celtic will be hoping to get back on track when they face their Scottish Premiership rivals in the League Cup on Wednesday.
Celtic have an excellent chance to respond to their critics and doubters on Wednesday as they face St Johnstone in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup just days after they were beaten in dramatic circumstances by Kilmarnock.
Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that the defeat at Rugby Park acts a wake-up call. And the loss, coupled with upcoming games against Aberdeen and Red Bull Salzburg, may perhaps tempt the Hoops boss to make a number of changes for Wednesday’s tie.
There could potentially be six changes from the weekend’s lineup. It would probably be a big surprise if Scott Bain does not feature as he replaced Craig Gordon in the previous round.
Meanwhile, in defence, Jack Hendry keeps his place alongside Dedryck Boyata despite enduring a tough afternoon at Killie. The late injury to Filip Benkovic was not ideal and it would make sense to rest the loanee for this game even if he is fit enough to be in contention.
Emilio Izaguirre and Cristian Gamboa are both given rare opportunities to impress on either flank, while Callum McGregor replaces Youssouf Mulumbu alongside Scott Brown in holding midfield.
Mikey Johnston and Ryan Christie may keep their places from the weekend, but Lewis Morgan should get a chance to shine as he continues to wait for his first start for the club.
And up front, Odsonne Edouard may come back in with Leigh Griffiths staking a fantastic claim to be Rodgers’ first-choice in the league and in Europe with two goals in his last two appearances.
