Celtic face Motherwell for the second time in four days on Wednesday evening.
Celtic face Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership just four days after beating Stephen Robinson’s side in the Betfred Cup final at Hampden Park, in what is likely to be a feisty affair.
The Well’s squad are still likely to be hurting after losing 2-0 to the Hoops on Saturday, with Celtic’s second goal marred in controversy after Moussa Dembele stuck his penalty straight down the middle of Trevor Carson’s goal.
Scott Sinclair was adjudged to have been fouled by referee Craig Thomson during the second half with the score at just 1-0, which saw Celtic earn a penalty and go 2-0 up, while defender Cedric Kipre was sent off.
Robinson’s men will have felt hard done by at the decision and will be determined to end Celtic’s 65-game unbeaten run on Wednesday night, as the Hoops held aloft their fourth trophy under Brendan Rodgers.
With Celtic set to play their third game in eight days after Sunday’s cup final and last week’s 7-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, Rodgers is likely to combat tiredness with a third successive clash against Motherwell on Saturday.
The Hoops are likely to remain the same in defence as injuries continue to take their toll on Rodgers’ first team, but it is in midfield and attack where Rodgers is expected to reshuffle his deck.
Craig Gordon, Mikael Lustig, Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and Kieran Tierney are expected to keep their place, along with goalscorers Moussa Dembele and James Forrest as well as captain Scott Brown.
But Scotland internationals Callum McGregor and Stuart Armstrong as well as 28-year-old Scott Sinclair are likely to be rested and they could be dropped to the bench in order to keep their fitness levels at a premium.
