Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou claims the injury suffered by striker Giorgos Giakoumakis isn’t actually as bad as first feared.

The Bhoys only managed a 1-1 draw with Dundee United on Sunday as Liel Abada’s opener was quickly cancelled out.

Postecoglou is starting to come under increased pressure, and needs to start picking up some positive results soon.

His lack of goalscoring options has been a major problem, with Giakoumakis really needed in the Celtic attack.

Giakoumakis yet to play for Celtic

Greek hitman Giakoumakis joined Celtic from VVV-Venlo on deadline day, and fans were excited about the deal.

With 26 goals in the Eredivisie last season, Giakoumakis was a real goal machine in the Netherlands.

Arriving just as Odsonne Edouard left the club, Giakoumakis was seen as Celtic’s next big goal threat.

Unfortunately, Giakoumakis hasn’t been fit enough to play for Celtic yet.

He was named on the bench against Raith Rovers on Thursday night, but suffered an injury in the warm-up. The wait to see Giakoumakis in action for Celtic goes on.

Postecoglou offers good news

Celtic fans are desperate for some good news right now, and there is some positivity over Giakoumakis.

Postecoglou has told The Scottish Sun that the scan on Giakoumakis has returned more positive than anticipated.

Postecoglou even thinks that Giakoumakis could play for Celtic against Aberdeen last week if he has a full week of training.

“The scan came back actually more positive than we thought so we’re hoping he’ll get back into training this week,” said Postecoglou. “If Giakoumakis gets a full week of training we’re quite hopeful for next weekend,” he added.
