Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, but pundit Andy Walker wasn’t too pleased with how the Bhoys defended crosses into the box.
The Bhoys did manage to win, with Jota bagging the winner after Kyogo Furuhashi had given Celtic the lead.
Lewis Ferguson’s leveller wasn’t going to stop Celtic, and they picked up a vital three points at Pittodrie.
There is still plenty for Ange Postecoglou to work on though, and Walker believes defending crosses should be at the top of the list.
Speaking to Sky Sports during the Aberdeen game (57min), Walker felt that Celtic were all over the place when the ball was sent into the box.
“I’m not sure any Celtic supporter came up here today thinking their team would keep a clean sheet. They are so vulnerable to crossed balls.”
“It’s extraordinary how vulnerable Celtic are from crossed balls,” he added on 84 minutes.
Celtic still forming partnerships at the back
Maybe this was to be expected given Celtic’s upheaval at the back.
In that starting lineup against Aberdeen, the most central players at the back were all summer signings.
Joe Hart started in goal behind Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt at centre back.
Understanding between new signings can take some time, and Celtic are experiencing that.
Hart, Staffelt and Carter-Vickers all have plenty of physicality and have played on the international stage.
They are far from bad players, and just need to build up rapport with each other to form a cohesive defensive unit.
Postecoglou will be working on that in training anyway, and hopefully there will be improvements over the coming weeks and months.
