Celtic beat Aberdeen 3-1 at Celtic Park today – here is how their players rated…
Craig Gordon 6 – didn’t stand much of a chance with Adam Rooney’s consolation, but made one fine save in the second half.
Mikael Lustig 6 – solid enough going forward but did have some problems with Jonny Hayes, with the Aberdeen winger getting a number of dangerous crosses in to the box.
Dedryck Boyata 6 – the Belgian was decent enough, but got caught standing still on a Hayes cross which Rooney put wide. Still prone to the odd scare, but did his job fairly well.
Jozo Simunovic 7 – a late injury scare threatened to ruin the Croatian’s day, but he was again assured in the Celtic defence, whilst he is also capable of stepping forward to shoot – just like his predecessor Virgil van Dijk was.
Kieran Tierney 9 – the teenage left back has earned plenty of plaudits this season, but this was possibly his best display yet. His delivery for Griffiths’ opening goal was exceptional, and he was solid defensively throughout.
Nit Bitton 7 – The Israeli did what he usually does – he sat in front of the Celtic defence, broke play up and passed the ball well in a sound display.
Stefan Johansen 6 – it’s clear that the Norwegian is short of confidence. He was busy and kept possession ticking over but he didn’t contribute going forward like he did last season, with most of his passes sideways or backwards. Needs to find his confidence again and be a force in the final third.
Kris Commons 7 – superb footwork to win the second half penalty, and was one of Celtic’s more influential creative players, continuing to show why he should be in the team every week.
Tom Rogic 8 – this was another great performance in what is becoming a superb season for the Australian. Rogic was strong, went past players and wasn’t afraid to shoot. Becoming an increasingly important player for the Bhoys.
James Forrest 7 – Forrest was bright and lively, and took his goal very well. The winger has benefited from plenty of first team football this season, as well as avoiding injuries which have plagued him so far.
Leigh Griffiths 8 – it’s been a sensational 2015 for Griffiths, and he added another two goals to his account today. A sublime header opened the scoring, and his second came from the penalty spot in another impressive performance from the Scottish international.
Substitutes:
Stuart Armstrong 6 – bright showing when he came on, and will rue Griffiths’ decision not to play him in on goal when he could’ve scored.
Emilio Izaguirre and Efe Ambrose also came on, but weren’t on the pitch long enough to make a real impact as Celtic saw out the game comfortably.
