Celtic plan to sign Filip Benkovic under threat from growing interest from Inter Milan

Inter Milan are rivalling Celtic for Filip Benkovic.

The Scottish Sun reported last month that Celtic were ramping up their interest in Dinamo Zagreb’s Filip Benkovic.

The Croatian defender is highly rated and Celtic hope to sign him in January, providing Dinamo drop their high £17 million asking price.

Now their interest is under additional threat from Inter Milan, who are stepping up their own plans to sign him.

Inter News Calciomercato report Inter are showing strong interest in Benkovic, with Dinamo sporting director Marko Vukelic confirming they are keen.

Vukelic admitted Inter are a club they enjoy good relations with due to past deals between the two clubs.

Inter’s interest is a blow to Celtic and could scupper their chances of landing the 20-year-old centre-back.

If Celtic were hoping to land Benkovic at a knock down fee then their chances would be helped if they were the sole bidders.

Inter are yet to make an offer, but their interest is an ominous sign for the Celtic, who may have to make alternative plans.
