Celtic flop Vakoun Bayo has walked out on his country’s Olympic Games preparations to seal a Parkhead exit, joining Belgian side KAA Gent.
Bayo’s new side reportedly don’t want him involved in the Games in Tokyo – despite the registration deadline having already passed – leaving the Ivory Coast hoping the IOC allows them to add a replacement.
Bayo’s time at Celtic was a write-off, playing in just one league game and mustering a mere eight substitute appearances in 18 months.
The forward spent last season on loan with French side Toulouse and the writing appeared to be on the wall for his Celtic career this summer – although his decision to walk out on the Olympics may hurt his future international chances.
“We will try to replace him in the squad after this,” an Ivory Coast spokesperson told the Scottish Sun.
“But as it stands, we don’t think the IOC will accept our request since the deadline for submitting the lists has expired.”
Celtic need to reinvest funds from sales quickly
The Hoops have now made somewhere around £18million in player sales since the start of the year and new chief executive Dom McKay needs to loosen the pursestrings a little as Ange Postecoglou rebuilds the squad.

A couple of free agents with fairly limited experience aren’t going to be enough to depose a rampant Rangers side from the top of the table any time soon.
Unless McKay sanctions some spending quickly, Rangers won’t have to wait the same decade between titles they waited last time round.
