Celtic have snapped up one new defender in Osaze Urhoghide, but they have missed out on signing another in Rob Atkinson.
The Bhoys are looking to ramp up their recruitment this summer given that they finally have a manager on board in Ange Postecoglou.
Celtic must find defensive reinforcements for their new manager, but Atkinson won’t be joining the club from Oxford United this summer.
Celtic’s interest in signing Atkinson
The Sun on Sunday reported last month that Celtic were looking to swoop in and sign Atkinson ahead of Championship side Bristol City.
Formerly of Fulham, Atkinson had to drop into non-league with Eastleigh but has been superb for Oxford United, who were demanding around £1.6million for his signature.
The 22-year-old is a talented left-footed centre back and was seemingly being eyed by Celtic as a potential replacement for Kristoffer Ajer.

Atkinson heads to Bristol City
Celtic have ultimately missed out though because Bristol City have now confirmed the signing of Atkinson.
The Championship club have announced Atkinson’s arrival, pipping Celtic to what looks like an exciting move.
Maybe Atkinson will remain on Celtic’s radar moving forward as they wait to see how he fares in the Championship as the young defender makes another big step up.
