Kundai Benyu is one of the three summer signings Celtic have made during this window.
Kundai Benyu has told Celtic’s official website that he turned down the chance to remain in the Championship or even make the step up to the Premier League before joining the Hoops this summer.
Benyu is one of three summer signings that Brendan Rodgers has made during this window, with Jonny Hayes and Olivier Ntcham also arriving at Parkhead.
But the 19-year-old – who arrived following around a decade spent on Ipswich Town’s books – suggested that there was plenty of interest in his signature, with even the chance to move to one of the top flight clubs in England not enough to tempt him away from joining the Hoops.
“There were other (English) Premier League, Championship and League One clubs interested but when I heard Celtic were interested, I said yeah. It’s a very big step but this is what I want to try and do in my career,” he told the club’s official website.
Benyu’s arrival is certainly a major statement from the Bhoys, especially now that he has suggested that Premier League sides wanted to try and sign him during this window.
The work that Rodgers has done with his squad in one year has seemingly shown to young players that moving to Parkhead can be the perfect move for their development, but also to realise ambitions and win plenty of silverware.
And based on Benyu’s pre-season performances so far, it appears that Celtic will be especially grateful in time to have won the race for this particular teenager.
