Celtic’s Marvin Compper has reacted to his first training session with the club.

New Celtic signing Marvin Compper has told the club’s official website that he felt his first training session under Brendan Rodgers was ‘intense’.

The Bhoys were approaching the January transfer window in need of a new defender, given that Erik Sviatchenko has been frozen out and the pairing of Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata were ripped apart at Hearts recently.

Manager Rodgers took an early step to solve the problem, teeing up a deal for RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper in December, which went through on January 1^st.

Compper, 32, has turned out for the likes of Borussia Monchengladbach, Hoffenheim and Fiorentina, before most recently featuring for Leipzig.

The veteran centre back played a key role in helping Leipzig not only win promotion to the Bundesliga, but also qualify for the Champions League, before being phased out this season.

Celtic have swooped in to benefit, signing Compper until the summer of 2020, and he took part in his first training session on Monday as Celtic train out in Dubai.

Compper has now told the club’s official website that his first training session with the Bhoys was ‘intense’, suggesting that they are ‘the best’ as he immediately gets stuck in under Rodgers.

Compper noted that all his teammates have been fantastic so far, and he is enjoying his start to life as a Celtic player.

“It’s been a busy few days but I’m happy that I’m now with the guys,” said Compper. “I’ve seen quite a lot of the team, two matches at Celtic Park, and I got a good impression of the squad. I’ve been waiting for this moment where I could join up with my teammates as our winter break back in Germany started on 17 December, so I’ve had a couple of weeks off.”

“The boys are fantastic and it’s an easy bunch to join in with – I couldn’t wait to get going. My first training session here in Dubai was intense but these kind of intense sessions are the best as during the season there is no time for it. Now we can work on the details. So it’s been a nice introduction and now we will go on from here,” he added.
