Stuart Armstrong has arguably Celtic’s best player this season, and most definitely, their most improved.
Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong
In January it was reported by the Evening Times that Celtic were preparing to offer Stuart Armstrong a new contract with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.
More than two months on, and it appears that Armstrong is still yet to sign that new deal that he so richly deserves based on this season’s form. And Hoops supporters would certainly be forgiven for wondering whether that is a big gamble.
Before the start of the current campaign, few Celtic fans would arguably have cared if the 24-year-old had been allowed to move on as he had previously struggled to make any kind of impact under Ronny Deila.
However, Brendan Rodgers’ arrival has seemingly proved to be a defining moment in Armstrong’s Parkhead career. He has most definitely been the Bhoys’ most improved player this term, and certainly has a case to be considered as their overall player of the season.
Armstrong has scored 10 times and contributed six assists from midfield in the Scottish Premiership – taking his goals tally into double figures with the opener in Sunday’s Old Firm clash with Rangers.

While there is no reason to suggest that Celtic need to panic regarding Armstrong’s future, they would surely be wise to get his contract situation sorted as soon as possible before he puts himself on the radar of Premier League clubs.
Armstrong’s substitution during the Old Firm draw was deemed by many to be a turning point that allowed Rangers to get back into the game, highlighting how much weaker they may perhaps be if they allowed his deal to run down to the point that he could have his head turned.
It seems likely – based on what the Evening Times reported in January – that Armstrong wants to stay put, but surely it makes little sense for Celtic to take a gamble and leave his situation in limbo any longer.
