Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani may not be a huge name, but he may leave Celtic feeling that they really missed out on a big pay day.

Back in the summer of 2019, Celtic were keen to sign Rrahmani from Dinamo Zagreb.

The former defensive partner of Filip Benkovic in Croatia, Rrahmani was seen as a potential defensive addition for Celtic as Benkovic returned to Leicester.

Unfortunately for Celtic, Rrahmani chose to make a move to Italian side Hellas Verona instead.

Rrahmani did even admit that he had an offer from Celtic, but he rejected them in favour of Verona.

Within six months, Rrahmani had secured a big £12million move to Napoli before being loaned back to Verona.

Now a vital part of the Napoli defence, Rrahmani has bagged three goals in 27 Series A games this season, enjoying a fine campaign.

Celtic may be happy with the partnership of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt, but Rrahmani could have been a big capture.

If Celtic felt gutted at Rrahmani becoming key for Napoli, then that feeling may only be about to get worse.

Rrahmani’s agent Adrian Aliaj has hinted that Manchester United are interested in signing Rrahmani this summer.

Rrahmani currently values Champions League football, which is actually more likely with Napoli than United, but a move to Old Trafford would surely appeal to the 28-year-old.

It’s not often Kosovo internationals get the chance to make such big moves, but that could be on the table for Rrahmani this summer.

Just three years on from Celtic missing out on Rrahmani, it looks like the defender has become a star and could yet reach new heights.

Whilst not a household name, Rrahmani continues to go from strength to strength and will leave some at Celtic a little disappointed that they missed out.
