Celtic need to consider re-signing Patrick Roberts, especially if Scott Sinclair is away.
Scott Sinclair’s Celtic future is a bit up in the air at the moment.
As things stand, the 30-year-old winger will be leaving Parkhead for free this summer if Celtic don’t trigger the one-year contract extension to keep him until 2020 [The Record].
Sinclair has netted 16 goals across all competitions for the Hoops this season but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be staying in Glasgow.
If he doesn’t, could Patrick Roberts be a viable replacement?
Roberts, who can play on both flanks, had a couple of excellent loan spells under Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers, before returning to parent club Manchester City last summer.
The 22-year-old has struggled on a season-long loan at Girona due to a loss of form and fitness and, with his contract up in 2020, Celtic should ask a question of City.
If the Sky Blues don’t sell this summer then there’s a strong possibility that he’ll leave for free 12 months down the line which, from a business perspective, doesn’t make a lot of sense for City.
It seems plausible that they may well sell and Celtic should certainly be in the running if he is for sale.
This is a player who the Parkhead faithful fell in love with during his spell at Paradise and most supporters would love him back on a permanent basis.
Valued at £15 million [The Express], Celtic might need to break their club record to re-sign the English winger but, considering his age, ability and re-sale value, it’d be worth it.
