Henrik Larsson was a hero at Celtic in his playing days – and his son is now becoming a wanted man.

The Swede will go down as one of Celtic’s greatest players having hit 242 goals in 313 games for the Bhoys, and many have wanted his son Jordan to turn out for the Bhoys too.

For a while, it looked like the 23-year-old wouldn’t hit similar heights to his father, having scored just four times in 21 games for NEC Nijmegen before returning to Sweden with IFK Norrkoping.

In 2019 though, Larsson made a move to Russia with Spartak Moscow, and his fine form there – 20 goals in 50 games – is turning heads.

Goal report that West Ham United want to sign Larsson, whilst Borussia Dortmund are even considering a move to lure him over to Germany.

Celtic fans have voiced their pretty strong opinions on this, suggesting that the Bhoys have royally screwed his up; Larsson could have followed in his father’s footsteps, but the Bhoys looked elsewhere, going for the likes of Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Patryk Klimala and Albian Ajeti in recent times.

Celtic may have one more shot though, as it looks like Bhoys striker Odsonne Edouard will be making a move away from Parkhead this summer, bringing in big money.

Celtic will need a replacement in attack, and Larsson has shown in Russia that he can be a real source of goals.

A deal wouldn’t come cheap now, both because of Larsson’s goalscoring exploits and the clubs queueing up to sign him this summer.

Yet with Leigh Griffiths potentially leaving too, Celtic need a big investment up top. They need a striker who can score goals now, develop in the future and potentially earn them a profit.

Larsson ticks those boxes. He’s quick, possesses a delicate first touch, has a dangerous left foot and is a major threat from set pieces, meaning he can replace many of things Edouard provides.

Add in the emotional element given his father’s hero status at Parkhead, and Celtic could be an appealing option for Larsson – but they need to make their move soon having let him slip their net this long.
