Rosenborg have ‘no plans’ to sell striker Casper Tengstedt amid interest from Ange Postecoglou’s Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, head coach Kjetil Rekdal tells Adressaavisen.

No wonder.

Rosenborg haven’t claimed Norway’s biggest prize since 2018, after all, and one of the most prolific forwards in Scandanavian football represents their best chance of ending that five-year title drought. Tengstedt, after joining from AC Horsens, produced a remarkable 15 goals and nine assists in just 14 Eliteserien games during the second half of the 2022 campaign.

A Celtic side looking for a potential Giorgios Giakoumakis replacement have ‘scheduled’ talks with Tengstedt’s camp, Football Scotland say.

Rosenborg, however, value the Denmark U21 international at a fee in excess of £3.5 million. It would take something ‘special’, Rekdal insists, for Norway’s most successful side to cash in.

“There have been no offers,” the coach explains. “And we have no plans to sell either. So we are taking it easy. We have no thoughts of selling in January, so something special must happen.”

Tengstedt, who also found the net at a rate of one-in-two at AC Horsens, is one of a number of exciting young forwards on Ange Postecoglou’s radar. South Korean duo Cho Gue-Sung and Oh Hyeon-Gyu are also under consideration.

Cho was the K-League’s Golden Boot winner in 2022. He also scored twice for South Korea at the Qatar World Cup. OH Hyeon-Gyu, meanwhile, is now the subject of a £1.75 million bid from a Celtic side sitting nine points clear of Rangers following Monday’s 2-2 Old Firm derby draw at Ibrox.

“The reports are true. It is not common to receive offers from European clubs. And Celtic, a prestigious club, gave me a good offer. So I have a strong desire to take on this opportunity,” admits the Suwon Samsung Bluewings targetman.

“When I heard that the club had an offer, I said I want to go. I am waiting for the club’s position on the offer.

“(I said) this was my dream. It is also the moment I have dreamed of since I was young. So, when the offer came, I had a strong desire to take on the challenge as soon as possible.

“Even if I advance towards Europe, I am a player of Suwon. And I think it is right to follow my duty as a player as much as possible.”
