Celtic could reportedly be without Filip Benkovic for the rest of the season.

Filip Benkovic of Celtic is injured during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premier League between Celtic and at Ibrox Stadium on December 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic have reportedly been dealt a huge blow as the Scottish Premiership season gets back up to full speed, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Filip Benkovic could miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Benkovic has been a brilliant signing for the Hoops, helping make Brendan Rodgers’ side look a lot better defensively than they have at various points in the last couple of years.

Luckily for Celtic, there is still time in the January transfer window for the Bhoys to replace Benkovic if Rodgers wishes to. It is not going to be an easy task, but it would arguably be a gamble to let the deadline pass without getting a new signing in.

And perhaps one player that Rodgers should consider is Burnley centre-back Ben Gibson, amid reports from Sky Sports that Aston Villa are plotting a loan bid in the final hours of the window.

Gibson has not had the best time at Turf Moor following his £12 million move (via Sky Sports). But he enjoyed a fantastic spell at Middlesbrough, and he would arguably be a fantastic loan signing for the Hoops if they decided to make a move.

He is a leader who is more than comfortable in possession. Gibson could certainly fill the void that Benkovic may leave, and if he could be brought in on loan, he could be as inspired an addition as Benkovic was threatening to be before this latest blow.
