Celtic must rival Leeds United for Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow.

Leeds United have been credited with an interest in Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, but it’s time Celtic threw their hat in the ring.
According to The Sun, Leeds are keen to sign the out-of-favour Magpies stopper as competition for Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
The same report adds that Newcastle only want £4 million for Darlow and, at that price, Celtic really shouldn’t think twice.
The Hoops made a profit of around £17 million last summer and spending less than a quarter of that on a goalkeeper as talented as Darlow is a no-brainer.
At 28, Darlow has many brilliant years ahead of him in between the sticks, and Thursday’s defeat by Salzburg in the Europa League is a reminder that Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers really needs to be looking toward the future.
Craig Gordon made a horrendous Loris Kairus-type mistake which jeopardised Celtic’s passage into the last 32 of the competition and, considering he turns 36 this month, a younger model is needed going forward.
Leeds desperately need a new goalkeeper and if Darlow – who was labelled a ‘great goalkeeper’ by Eden Hazard last season [The Chronicle] – has designs on being a Premier League player again in the future then a move to Elland Road makes more sense.
But the Bhoys are a massive club and one that could offer him European football, which he is unlikely to get anywhere else in his career, and Rodgers should certainly ask the question.
