Is signing a veteran defender the right move for Celtic?

Celtic are reported to be eyeing a deal for free agent defender Phil Jagielka, The Sun report.
The 36-year-old has just been released by Everton.
Jagielka performed well when called upon by the Toffees last season and could be a sensible addition.
But ageing players can drop off sharply, especially when they are called on regularly.
Celtic’s rivals Rangers have found this out to their cost in recent seasons.
Moves for veterans Clint Hill, Bruno Alves and Gareth McAuley have provided limited to little success.

They are the type of deals Celtic fans have mocked Rangers for.
Moving for over the hill stars are seen as short term, desperate moves of a cash strapped club.
There is no suggestion Celtic are in any trouble financially, quite the opposite, their accounts are healthy, so it is odd they are choosing to reportedly pursue Jagielka.
He could give them a short term boost, but surely the Neil Lennon era should have more vision than making an early move for a 36-year-old defender?
