Celtic are again being linked with Mohamed ‘Afsha’ Magdy as his agent claims that the Bhoys are chasing his signature for January.
The Bhoys love to strike early January business under Ange Postecoglou and that is certainly happening again.
Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi agreed to sign on a free transfer from Vissel Kobe earlier this month, with Postecoglou again looking towards the J1 League.
Celtic secured their second January signing on Saturday as they announced a deal for CF Montreal right back Alistair Johnston.
The transfer window doesn’t open for almost a month but Celtic already have two signings lined up – and a third could yet arrive.
Celtic again linked with Mohamed ‘Afsha’ Magdy
A name Celtic fans will be familiar with is Mohamed ‘Afsha’ Magdy.
Afsha’s agent told the Daily Record back in 2020 that Celtic had made an offer to sign the playmaker.
Aisha’s agent then stated in 2021 that Celtic were vying with Besitkas and Galatasaray in the race for the Al-Ahly star.
It’s now time for the 2022 edition of this rumour with Football Scotland reporting that Celtic have made ‘initial contact’ to try and sign Afsha.
English Championship and Turkish clubs are also keen on Afsha and Celtic now face a fight for his signature in January.
Agent Maher Nawfal is quoted as saying that there is indeed ‘interest from Celtic’ but he and Afsha will now take their time to weigh up the options.
Afsha, 26, predominantly plays as a number 10 but can also play on either flank.
A diminutive talent at just 5ft 6in tall, Afsha has bagged 29 goals and 32 assists in 146 games for Al-Ahly.
Afsha’s technical ability may well appeal to Postecoglou but we’re approaching now or never territory on this one.
The Egyptian turns 27 in March and if January passes without a move to Celtic, we can only assume it just isn’t going to happen the closer he gets to 30.
