Celtic had been linked with a move for the new West Bromwich Albion star.

Twelve months ago, Celtic found out the hard way that haggling too hard can backfire.
The Hoops spent most of last summer trying to sign John McGinn, the subject of three failed bids, before the Scottish midfielder joined Aston Villa and led them to Premier League promotion last season.
And have Celtic just repeated that mistake this time around?
Romaine Sawyers has just signed for West Brom in a £2.9 million deal [The Daily Mail].
The Premiership champions have previously had a second £2 million bid turned down [The Scottish Sun], after increasing their original offer by £500,000, and the fact that he was within Neil Lennon’s reach might hurt the Northern Irishman.
For an extra £900,000, Celtic could’ve stood a chance of bringing him to Glasgow. Sure, he might’ve preferred to join the Baggies regardless, but the Bhoys could have at least made him consider a switch to Glasgow if they had offered what Brentford wanted right off the bat.
Missing out on Sawyers won’t hurt the same as McGinn, given that the latter is a boyhood fan of the Paradise club and wanted to join, but it could and should pain them to know that they might’ve been architects over their own downfall yet again.
