Celtic have missed out on the signature of Tosin Adarabioyo after the defender pledged his future to Manchester City.

City confirmed on their official website last night that Adarabioyo had decided to sign a contract extension, tying him to City until 2021.

The Premier League side had been very concerned about losing Adarabioyo on a free transfer with his current deal set to expire at the end of this month.

The Scottish Sun reported a few weeks ago that Celtic were plotting to swoop for the centre-back.

City would have been entitled to big compensation money if he had signed for another English side but Celtic would have by-passed that, and had to pay a small six-figure sum.

Celtic had looked to City for signings on loan in recent seasons, with Patrick Roberts and Jason Denayer. It remains possible they could try and grab Adarabioyo on loan, but it is likely he will want to fight for his place at City next season.

Adarabioyo has been training with City’s first team squad this past season and has made four first team appearances.
