Celtic defensive midfielder Nir Bitton has congratulated Patrick Roberts on Instagram on his move to Middlesbrough from Manchester City.

As announced on Middlesbrough’s official website on Monday, Roberts has joined the Championship club on loan from Premier League giants City.

The 23-year-old spent the second half of the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Boro from the Citizens as well.

According to WhoScored, Roberts made eight starts and two substitute appearances in the Championship for Boro, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process.

The former England Under-20 international was going to find it hard to play first-team football at City, and the winger has decided to move back to Middlesbrough in the Championship on a loan deal.

Roberts was on loan at Celtic from 2016 until 2018, and his former teammate at Celtic Park, Bitton, has congratulated him on his transfer to Boro.

Bitton responded: “Congrats little man”.

Meanwhile, Shane Duffy has made it clear on Twitter that Celtic are paying his wages while he is on loan at the Hoops.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international defender joined the Bhoys from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.
