Scott Brown stated that Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday came over to ‘congratulate’ him after Celtic beat their bitter rivals 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Parkhead.

The Old Firm fixture served up a number of flashpoints, with Gers striker Alfredo Morelos seeing red for elbowing Brown in the first-half.

At that time, Edouard had put the home team ahead, but it was in the second half where all the incidents occurred, including Ryan Kent lashing out at Brown and Halliday being involved in a heated exchange with the Celtic captain after the final whistle.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (31/03/2019 at 2:10 pm), Brown issued some brilliant responses to the incidents that occurred during what was a feisty and hotly-contested derby.

On Morelos: “He just gave me an elbow,” Brown told Sky Sports Football. “You can’t do that, especially in modern day football with the number of cameras there are.

On Kent: “I can’t even remember that.

On Halliday: “Oh, he came up to congratulate me!”

After the final whistle, Halliday was shown a second yellow by referee Bobby Madden, who had to deal with a number of talking points in the game.

The home team started off in a better fashion and they got their due rewards when Edouard slotted home after 27 minutes to the delight of the supporters.

Then an off-the-ball incident resulted in Morelos seeing red once again this season, but his departure saw Steven Gerrard’s side arguably produce some of their best football in the second period.

It saw Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent equalise after a mazy run, but James Forrest ensured the three points belonged to the Bhoys three minutes from time as Neil Lennon’s side go 13 points clear at the top.
