He has looked irreplaceable, and there must have been a few worried faces in senior positions at different points wondering how Celtic could possibly replace him one day.
So the last thing the club will do, when they find that player, is to sell him.
Callum McGregor has grown over the past 18 months into a role which suggests he could succeed Brown long-term.
Even in the present, he is keeping the Celtic captain out of the side.
McGregor has been linked with a move to Bournemouth, with The Sun claiming the Cherries are interested, and floating a potential £10 million price.
For that sort of money, or any reasonable fee really, Celtic should not be cashing in on a player who can be their most important player.

He is on the cusp of a major role, in addition to his already key presence in the Celtic team.
He knows what a great opportunity he has if he stays put at Celtic.
