The German defender left the Hoops this month following an ill-fated 18-month Parkhead spell.

Marvin Compper, who left Celtic this summer following an ill-fated 18-month spell, has now already played more football for new club Duisburg than he did during his whole time at Parkhead.
Admittedly that is not the most difficult of feats, considering he played just 83 minutes of senior football for the Hoops since his £1million move from RB Leipzig in January 2018 as agreed a month earlier (official Celtic website).
Compper made just the one appearance for Celtic, in a 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Morton at Celtic Park in March 2018, in which he was in the starting XI and was taken off with seven minutes to play (Transfermarkt).
Since that game, the Brendan Rodgers signing did not appear in the green and white hoops again, remaining out of contention until being finally offloaded by Neil Lennon at the end of the 2019-20 season.

Last Saturday, however, Compper played 90 minutes for Duisburg in their 4-1 victory over Sonnenhof Grossaspach in the opening 3. Liga (German third division) fixture of the new season (Transfermarkt), and following the game, he expressed how pleased he was to be back in action.
“It was a nice feeling to be back playing and really, that’s exactly why I came to Duisburg,” he is quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying. “I suppose it felt a bit strange at first after all this time out, but it took no time at all to get back into it.
“I made it clear when I left Celtic my main aim as to play football and that’s why I came here. My body is still strong. We won 4-1 without ever really playing well to be honest and that’s a good thing. Now it’s just a case of trying to play as many games as I can at this stage of my career.”
