Celtic manager Neil Lennon says the club don’t want to lose Scott Sinclair this summer, amid interest from English Championship side Preston North End, BBC Scotland report.

The Herald reported last Friday that Alex Neil’s side are weighing up a £2.5m bid for the player, who has found his first-team chances at the Hoops limited since the departure of Brendan Rodgers.

In recent months Lennon has opted to pursue Mikey Johnston as a left wing option, with others such as Jonny Hayes and Lewis Morgan also getting more opportunities.

The situation has left Sinclair somewhat on the fringes of proceedings, certainly compared to the regular action he had in the two-and-a-half seasons previous.

Lennon though doesn’t want him to leave the squad, telling BBC Scotland: “It’s just a little difficult period for Scott at the moment.

“It’s so early and a player with that experience is always so handy to have around.

“He’s got a great goal record and he’s had a great time at Celtic. So we don’t want him to go, that’s for sure.”

It’s no surprise to hear that Celtic want to keep Sinclair, even though his current contract expires next summer.

The winger has scored a massive 61 goals since the start of the 2016/17 season, more than anyone else at the club in that time. He’s been as important to the Hoops’ incredible ‘treble treble’ success as any other player.

Even if he’s not starting regularly he can be a massive option to bring off the bench. He showed that away to FK Sarajevo recently, appearing late in the second half and scoring a goal.

Performing that kind of role across a long season in potentially four competitions gives Lennon’s side real threat.

Ultimately he may feel he should be starting on a week-to-week basis and that might determine whether he wants to push for a move away, but he can still be an important part of Celtic success.
