Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic has been out injured since January.
Brendan Rodgers has told the Glasgow Evening Times that Jozo Simunovic could return for Celtic in the near future.
Simunovic has been out of action since January, with a prolonged injury problem.
However, Rodgers was keen to gauge the centre-back’s fitness and had a lengthy meeting with him earlier in the week.
“He [Jozo] has responded really well,” said Rodgers. “I spoke to him at length on Tuesday and he feels strong and good in his body. He is two weeks away.”
Simunovic’s time at Celtic has been plagued with injury so far, but he has shown glimpses of quality when fit.
Celtic are currently very short at centre-back, but their injury crises is lessning.
Rodgers has confirmed that both Dedryck Boyata is on the verge of returning to full fitness, while Erik Sviatchenko has recovered well from a knock.
“Boyata will maybe be a little less than that [Simunovic],” Rodgers said.
“Erik [Sviatchenko] is fine. It was just a punch from the goalkeeper in a clash.”
Centre-back has been a problem position for Celtic for over a year now, with Rodgers now wanting to bring in a new defender before the close of the transfer window.
Celtic have made just one signing so far this summer, with striker Moussa Dembele joining from Fulham.
