Pat Nevin has said on BBC Sport that Celtic should have played Kyogo Furuhashi down the middle against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers at Ibrox today.
Rangers have got the better of bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic 1-0 at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership this afteroon.
Furuhashi, who can play as a forward or as a winger, started the match.
The Japan international started on the left of a front three, with Odsonne Edouard deployed down the middle.
Edouard was substituted midway through the second half, and Furuhashi was then moved to the centre.
Former Chelsea and Scotland international winger Nevin was following the match for BBC Sport, and the pundit believes that Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou should have played Furuhashi down the middle.
Nevin told BBC Sport (1:29pm): “Kyogo has been playing through the middle for 10 seconds and he’s already been more effective than Edouard. Why hasn’t he been playing there since the start of the game?”
Mistake from Ange Postecoglou?
Furuhashi, who joined Celtic this summer, has done extremely well for the Hoops so far.
The 26-year-old has scored three goals in the Scottish Premiership and three goals in four Europa League qualifiers.
Now, Edouard is the main striker at Celtic, and it made sense for the Frenchman to play down the middle where he is at his best.
Yes, it did not work today and maybe Postecoglou should have identified it earlier, but with Edouard, there is always hope that he will score.
