Reported Celtic target and Manchester City defender Jason Denayer looks set to join Lyon in the summer transfer window.
Celtic look set to be disappointed in their reported chase for Manchester City central defender Jason Denayer.
The Scottish Sun reported earlier this month that Celtic were interested in signing Denayer from Premier League champions City in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, spent the 2014-15 season on loan at the Hoops from the Citizens.
The Belgium international was on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray last season, but Denayer now seems to be heading to French giants Lyon.
The Scottish Sun has quotes Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas as saying: “Our new player is a Belgium international who has won the league with Galatasaray.
“He has plenty of references. Yes, it could well be Jason Denayer. Will he join us soon? He is in Lyon at the moment.”
Lyon are one of the biggest clubs in France and finished third in Ligue 1 last season, meaning that they have already booked their spot in the 2018-19 Champions League campaign.
Denayer is a very good and talented young defender, and the Belgian would have been a brilliant signing for Celtic, especially as the Hoops are struggling at the back at the moment.
However, it seems that Brendan Rodgers’s side are going to miss out on the 23-year-old – who earns £25,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com.
