No mistake about it, Saidy Janko’s 2016/17 has been near disastrous.
He was made surplus to requirements by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, and sent to Barnsley, where he has spent most of the campaign injured on the sidelines while his parent club have conquered all-comers in an incredible unbeaten domestic season.
With weeks to go, Janko’s season is getting back on track, returning to fitness and favour at Barnsley.
He has started the past two games and was awarded with the club’s man-of-the-match award after their midweek draw with Cardiff, and he is winning praise from his manager.

Paul Heckingbottom told Barnsley’s official website that while Janko is a long way from the finished product, he has made a good impression in recent weeks.
He said: “It’s just a case of pushing him and getting it in his head because a lot of his game is those physical attributes and you have to have a real determination to go out there and impose yourself and he’s done that, and done well in the last two games. He’s an absolute tank, but he’s got to have the mental mindset to go with that.”
Janko has benefitted from an injury crisis and the sale of James Bree to Aston Villa in January, and he is well positioned now to keep his place between now and the rest of the season.
