Darren Jackson has thrown his weight behind Celtic potentially signing Shane Duffy.
The Scottish Daily Mail [15/02, back page] reported this past weekend that the Hoops want to sign the Republic of Ireland international.
And the same publication also claimed that Duffy – currently at Brighton & Hove Albion – was game to join Celtic.
Christopher Jullien’s performance away to Kilmarnock earlier this month has made Neil Lennon want to sign additional centre-halves.
And although former Bhoys hitman Jackson says that Duffy isn’t the most technically-gifted defender around, he’s the type to ‘put the fear of God’ into the opposition.
He told PLZ Soccer: “He’s a defender, solid, goes through everything. [He is] not amazing on the ball, but defends well and he puts the fear of God into strikers. He is a defender.”
From Celtic’s perspective, this would be a brilliant move.
The 28-year-old has 96 Premier League appearances under his belt and Lennon might need a bit more experience as the Parkhead club go for a historic 10-in-a-row.
Then again, Celtic might reportedly have to pay £2 million to sign him just on loan and that could be considered fairly steep.
