If you’re on the lookout for a technically gifted playmaker with a superb range of passing, you should book the first flight to Croatia right away.

Because Lovro Majer, a 19-year-old earning rave reviews with Lokomotiva, appears to have all the attributes required to follow in the footsteps of Luka Modric (above), Marcelo Brozovic, Mateo Kovacic and fellow wonderkid Ante Coric.

Majer exploded onto the scene last season with four goals and 11 assists in all competitions and looks to have kicked on again in the opening weeks of 2017/18 by scoring four and setting up a further three in just seven appearances in Croatia’s top flight.

And Italian publication Secolo XIX reports that there are no shortage of clubs tracking Majer’s progress with Celtic battling Everton, Atletico Madrid, Watford, Lille, Nice and Sampdoria.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is renowned for getting the best out of young players so just imagine how excited the Northern Irishman would be to get his hands on a player with Majer’s potential.

Best of both worlds

The teenager is a highly technical and creatively gifted football, as emphasised by his impressive statistics for Lokomotiva. He also has the ability to control the temp of the game from deep midfield while blessed with a real tenacity and work rate that marks him out at such a young age.

It is not too much to suggest Majer combines the most impressive elements of Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong (below), Celtic’s first choice central midfielders.

He has Brown’s intelligence on and off the ball, replicating his ability to locate passing lanes and dictate play from deep. However, an ability to drive forward, play the killer pass and harry opponents is reminiscent of the more dynamic and athletic Armstrong.

Overall, it is easy to see what Rodgers likes about this latest Croatian wonderkid.
