Celtic reportedly want the right-back on trial after his Leicester City release.

Reported Celtic target Danny Simpson has told The Daily Mail that although he’d love to stay in the Premier League, he might be willing to consider a move outside of England.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Hoops will be giving the former Leicester City defender a trial at Lennoxtown next week.

The 32-year-old, a key member of the Foxes squad that won the Premier League in 2016, is out of contract after his Leicester contract expired this summer.

And although he would love to face his old City team-mates next term, the veteran right-back admits that he’s potentially open to leaving England entirely.

“I’d love to go back to the King Power to play against the lads,” he told The Daily Mail. “But at the same time I wouldn’t rule out anything abroad, in terms of a new experience.”

The whole trial thing is a little confusing, given that Celtic desperately need a right-back and aren’t in a position to turn their nose up at Simpson.

Mikael Lustig, Jeremy Toljan and Cristian Gamboa all left Parkhead this summer, with Neil Lennon being forced to play centre-back Kristoffer Ajer out of position in both Champions League qualifiers against Sarajevo over the past week.

Going by Simpson’s comments, he has offers in England and therefore it’s a risk by Lennon to only want him on a week-long trial originally.
